The
Australian Laser Dealers Qualifier Races 1 and 2
are set to be sailed on Day 2 of the Laser World
Championship after Race Officials were forced to
abandon all racing yesterday due to severe
weather.
Most of the fleet was off the ramp at 12.30pm,
but there were a few stragglers rushing to make
the start which at this stage is set for 1.00pm.
Winds of 10-15 knots from south/south-east with
up to 3-3½ metre waves on a 2 to 3
south/south-easterly swell are the conditions
forecast for today. At least the swell is running
with the breeze to make life a little easier for
the 160 boat international fleet.
As the boats headed out of The Haven, the
breeze was still relatively light in the 8-10 knot
range, but it is expected to pick up during the
day.
Once Races 1 and 2 of this ISAF Grade 1 event
are put to bed, officials will make a decision as
to whether they will run an extra race this
afternoon to catch up the schedule.
The sun is expected to peep out for a short
time today, but competitors left the ramps in
drizzling rain under gray skies and will face
showers for most the day. The temperature today is
expected to reach 22 degrees, but the morning is a
coldish one for Australian summertime..
