At 9.15am
this morning the Bureau of Meteorology’s
predicted southerly change hit Terrigal for the
Final Race 11 and 12 of the Laser World
Championship - and it is bucketing with rain –
not the conclusion we ordered for the final day.
The
Bureau says Southerlies will be in the vicinity of
25-33 knots mid to late morning with seas rising
2.5 to 3.5 metres and an east/nor-easterly swell
of 1.5 to 2 metres, tending south-east during the
afternoon.
Race
Officials are monitoring the situation and will
make a decision accordingly as to whether racing,
due to start shortly after 1.00pm today, will take
place or not. It is expected and hoped winds
will abate.
World
Champion Tom Slingsby from Australia goes into the
Final Races with a two point lead over
Argentina’s World Ranked No. 13 Julio Alsogaray
who led for much of the Championship.
Others
in with a chance of claiming the title include
third placed Javier Hernandez from Spain,
currently 12 points off the lead, fourth placed
Slovenian Vasilij Zbogar 20 points of the lead and
Michael Bullet, New Zealand’s top-placed sailor
in fifth place, 24 points behind Slingsby
Results
are provisional pending protests and ratification
by Race Officials.
