It’s
shaping up to be a beautiful summer day in Terrigal and the
Standard fleet will be first away in the Laser Masters
Worlds being sailed of Terrigal this week.
The
Standard fleet did not get any racing in yesterday as light
breezes caused delays and after their start hooter was
fired, massive shifts beset the course forcing race
organisers to abandon their racing.
Racing
started at 12.10pm today, the 50 Standard Apprentices away
first, then the huge 140 Masters fleet, split into two
starts, followed by the 54 boats in the Grand Masters.
Presently
a light easterly breeze is blowing under partially sunny
skies (the ever-threatening rain clouds are also in
evidence) and seas are flatter today. The Bureau of
Meteorology suggests breezes will tend east/nor-easterly at
10 to 15 knots later in the day on a south-easterly swell
of 1-2 metres.
Once the
Standard groups have completed a race, the plan is to start
the Laser Radial groups.
On hand
to retrieve the masses of boat trolleys from the ramp and
back into the park are students from Kincumber High School,
who have volunteered their time this week, as did Terrigal
High School last week.
The
students are doing a great job and having fun at the same
time and with so many boats to get on and off the water,
their help is appreciated, particularly after the end of a
long day’s sailing on Terrigal’s offshore courses.
